Stephanie Reinart is a German-qualified lawyer with over 25 years of experience with advising international clients in a wide range of matters related to EU and German competition law.

Stephanie also advises clients on the German rules governing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the notification requirements arising under these rules for certain transactions.

In the competition law field, Stephanie has extensive expertise in guiding companies on how to avoid antitrust pitfalls under the EU and German rules, including in relation to abuse of dominance / relative market power and cooperation between competitors.

She has defended companies in antitrust investigations of the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office and has secured merger control clearance for numerous concentrations under the EU, German and Austrian merger rules.

Stephanie’s experience also covers the handling of international arbitration cases in the competition law field before the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) as well as litigation before the European courts.

Before joining the firm, Stephanie’s role was that of in-house legal adviser to COPA-COGECA, a major European trade association in Brussels.

Representative matters

  1. Acting for Nippon Steel Corporation (Japan) and Whitehaven Coal Limited (Australia) regarding the merger control review of the planned acquisition of joint control over an Australian coal mine.
  2. Representing two groups of undertakings headquartered in, respectively, Malaysia and Australia in the merger control review of their acquisition of joint control over a real estate partnership based in Luxembourg.
  3. Acting for Docomo and Komatsu (both Japan) regarding the EU merger control review of their creation of the Landlog joint venture.
  4. Advising non-EU groups of companies on the notification and other requirements relating to their planned transactions under the German foreign direct investment (“FDI”) rules.
