As the new year started, both the US President and the European Commission communicated visions for their new mandates. On 20 January 2025, US President Donald Trump issued a Presidential Memorandum entitled “America First Trade Policy’’ mandating a full review of US trade and economic policies. Similarly, on 29 January 2025, the European Commission published its long-awaited Competitiveness Compass, a roadmap which lays down the priority actions for the European Commission for the next five years.
