EU trade law, EU customs law and EU sanctions
Aldo has assisted companies, governments and association of producers and users in more than 50 anti-dumping, anti-subsidy, and safeguard investigations initiated by the EU and by third countries such as the UK, the USA, Australia, and Türkiye.
He has extensive experience in advising multinational companies on complex customs law issues and compliance with EU trade and economic sanctions.
Aldo also advises clients on compliance with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other EU initiatives driven by environmental and human rights objectives (Forced Labour Regulation, Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence).
State aid
Aldo has strong expertise in the field of State aid, where he has successfully assisted public authorities suspected of granting aid and alleged beneficiaries active in different sectors, including aviation, infrastructure, tax, and maritime transport.
EU regulatory law and litigation
Aldo advises clients on EU law-related issues with a special focus on regulated sectors, including the food and beverage, environmental, and automotive sectors.
Aldo has assisted and represented clients in more than 30 cases before the Court of Justice of the EU (including cases relating to EU commercial policy, EU sanctions, State aid, and staff regulations) and before the Italian civil and administrative courts.
Representative matters
- Successfully representing the Turkish Exporters Association before the General Court, obtaining the annulment of the EU regulation imposing definitive countervailing duty imposed on imports of certain rainbow trout originating in Türkiye.
- Assisting the largest chemical company in the Republic of Korea in an EU anti-dumping investigation on imports of ABS and securing the lowest provisional anti-dumping duty.
- Successfully representing a major Vietnamese steel producer in an EU anti-dumping investigation into imports of hot-rolled coils. The producer obtained zero duty.
- Assisting the Brazilian Association of Ferroalloy and Metallic Silicon Producers in a safeguard investigation.
- Advising a large Italian group operating in the global engineering, materials procurement and large-scale plant construction sector in relation to EU sanctions.
