VBB secures termination of the Australian anti-dumping and countervailing investigation on imports of preserved tomatoes from Italy
1 min read
VBB, with a team led by Partner Gabriele Coppo, has successfully represented the Italian industry – namely the exporting producers Mutti, La Doria and IMCA, as well as Anicav (the association grouping the Italian producers) – in the context of an Australian anti-dumping and countervailing investigation concerning prepared or preserved tomatoes exported from Italy (Investigation 654).
The investigation, which was initiated on 15 October 2024, was terminated on 3 February 2026 without the imposition of any anti-dumping or countervailing duties.
The Australian Anti-Dumping Commission concluded that the level of subsidies was de minimis, and that there was no causal link between the dumped imports and the injury allegedly suffered by the Australian industry.
This outcome underscores the decisive role of a rigorous causation analysis in trade defence proceedings and constitutes a significant victory for Italian exporting producers, preserving their access to the Australian market.
