VBB competition and life sciences experts Peter L’Ecluse, Koen T’Syen and Amirsalar Kavoosi recently wrote an article on competition law enforcement in the pharmaceutical sector in Belgium.

Published in the Tijdschrift voor Belgisch Handelsrecht / Revue de Droit Commercial Belge (2025/7), their article, “The Application of Competition Law to the Pharmaceutical Sector in Belgium”, examines enforcement practice in cartel, abuse of dominance and merger control cases, and highlights broader enforcement trends likely to shape the sector in the years ahead.

Belgium is often referred to as Europe’s “Pharma Valley”. It is therefore no surprise that the Belgian Competition Authority has consistently treated pharmaceuticals as a priority area, and that competition law scrutiny in this sector has intensified significantly over the past decade.
