His practice includes advising clients on and assisting clients with contracting (terms and conditions, IT/outsourcing contracts, distribution contracts, licensing contracts etc.), e-commerce and market practices, trade mark, design and copyright law, data protection, artificial intelligence. In addition, Gert-Jan represents clients before the Belgian courts in commercial litigation matters.
He has particular experience in the retail and technology sectors, as well as the energy, life sciences, financial services and media, sports and entertainment sectors.
Prior to joining VBB, Gert-Jan worked as an IP and IT associate in the Brussels office of a leading international law firm and as in-house legal counsel with a focus on IT/outsourcing contracts and data protection at a regulated Belgian financial institution. Gert-Jan also gained vast experience during a one-year legal secondment at a multinational e-commerce and technology company.

- Representing clients before the Belgian courts in IP and commercial disputes as well as assisting clients with negotiating settlement agreements to solve disputes amicably.
- Assisting clients in the life sciences sector with negotiating and drafting research collaboration agreements and licensing agreements.
- Assisting various brands in their fight against counterfeiting products and other IP infringements.
- Assisting clients in data protection compliance projects, including the drafting of privacy policies, data processing agreements, data subject access requests, data breach procedures, DPIAs and data sharing and international data transfer agreements as well as ad-hoc advice on various privacy-related questions.
