Van Bael & Bellis (VBB) is pleased to announce that it has appointed competition partner Andreas Reindl as its new managing partner, with effect from 1 February 2024. Andreas succeeds Philippe De Baere who has led the firm since 2016 and will continue to practise as a member of VBB’s EU and international trade law group.
Andreas joined VBB in 2016. He has held a senior management position in VBB’s competition team for the past two years and has played a key role in developing the firm’s diversity programme.
Andreas has over three decades of experience of working on a wide range of high-profile competition matters, including major EU merger control cases and behavioural investigations. In addition to his time in private practice, which has involved working in both Brussels and Washington, DC, Andreas has served as Director of the Fordham Competition Law Institute at Fordham Law School, New York, and as a Principal Administrator at the OECD’s Competition Division in Paris. Andreas is a member of the Brussels and New York Bars and is a senior editor of the ABA Antitrust Committee’s Antitrust Law Journal.
Andreas Reindl said, “It is a privilege to be appointed to this role and I am excited about the opportunity to lead this premier firm with its reputed competition and trade capabilities, where the commitment to excellence and exceptional client service remains as firmly embedded today as when the firm was founded in 1986. During Philippe’s stewardship the firm has grown hugely. Philippe spearheaded the successful launch of our London office in 2020 and was instrumental in strengthening our market-leading transactions practice.
I am looking forward to collaborating with my many talented colleagues to drive the continued growth and success of our firm and our people in today’s fast-moving legal landscape, and to further enhancing the inclusive culture that VBB is known for. Working together, I am confident of our ability to deliver client services that consistently surpass expectations.”
Outgoing managing partner Philippe De Baere commented, “I know that Andreas has the strategic insights and leadership skills to take VBB to the next phase of its growth and to ensure we continue to meet clients’ needs for best-in-class commercial solutions to their legal issues. I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to lead the firm for the past seven years and would like to thank my colleagues for their unstinting support during that time.”
Chair and co-founder of VBB Jean-François Bellis added, “The firm and our clients are in excellent hands under Andreas. He is a trusted and highly appreciated advisor to several of our key clients and has the vision and energy to take forward our growth strategy, building upon Philippe’s outstanding contribution to the firm’s success to date. On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank Philippe for his dedication and leadership.”
