Our EU and Belgian competition law expertise has been recognised in Global Competition Review (GCR)’s 2025 guide to the world’s best competition practices. The guide aims to provide a research-based quantitative and qualitative analysis of the law firms doing the most important antitrust work globally.

Retaining its 2024 “Highly recommended” ranking, our 12-partner EU practice, led by Andrzej Kmiecik and Porter Elliott, is acknowledged as “one of the most successful independent firms in the Brussels market”. Among the team’s high-profile matters mentioned by GCR in its write-up are our roles advising Nippon Steel on its proposed acquisition of US Steel;  Japan Airlines on its appeal against the European Commission (Commission)’s readopted Air Cargo cartel fine; and Intel on its appeal against the Commission’s reopened decision in the long-running rebate abuse of dominance case following the annulment of the Commission’s initial EUR 1.06 billion fine. VBB founding partner Jean-François Bellis is applauded for his role as “one of the pioneers of EU antitrust law”, testament to our front and centre role in seminal EU cases over the past 40 years.

Our Belgian practice is again ranked as “Recommended”, commended for its “impressive work” under the leadership of Peter L’Ecluse. Cited cases include our work defending DAF and PACCAR against follow-on damages claims stemming from the Commission’s truck cartel decision, and representing pharmaceutical wholesaler CERP in the Belgian Competition Authority’s flu vaccine cartel investigation.

We are delighted to have this acknowledgement of our expertise. Thank you to our teams for their dedication and hard work, our peers for their collaboration and our clients for their continued trust and feedback.
